Build a heated whelping box plan

Create a wonderful heated whelping box for your pet

You can easily convert a used box into a whelping pen. Select a container that has a smooth interior. It is easier to clean a whelping box when there are no rough areas.

The entrance of the whelping box should be lower than the sides or back of the box to allow easy access for pets.

Insulation can be added to a new or used box if an inner liner is going to be installed to the interior. Insulating the whelping pen will help in maintaining a comfortable home.

To insulate the whelping box, a layer of Alfoil sheet is applied to all the inner surfaces including the floor of the pen. Place a layer of light ply board over the Alfoil to prevent the pups from attacking the insulation.

A whelping box will need relocating once the pups, kitten or small pets reach a certain size. The weight of a pets nest must be kept light without compromising strength.

Safety rails will be required for the whelping box

A common cause of injury to pets is when a mother accidentally smothers or steps on her pups or kitten. Safety rails provide a protected space for your small pets.

Heating the safety rails is an excellent method of providing a safe level of warmth for the whelping box interior.

The heated safety rails displayed* can be positioned on either side of the walls and the back of a nesting box.

Both rails are thermostatically controlled to automatically provide the same level of warmth that your puppy, kitten or small pet would receive when resting against their mother.

Pets will not be burnt if they rest against the rails.

Safety features have been built into the rails to prevent injury to your pet and still provide a reliable heat source.

The outer shell of the heated rail is a molded non toxic thermo plastic that will protect young teeth. Beneath this protective barrier is an aluminum shield that prevents your pup or kitten from reaching the electrical components.

A sturdy spring “flexes” if a pet collides into the heater during play. This will reduce the force of the impact.

New born pets will not be house trained at this period of time. The heated safety rails have been weather proofed to provide the maximum protection for your small pets.
